Pressure Rise in Substations Caused by Electrical Faults
Members of BEAMA’s Principle Products Management Committee requested that BEAMA in coordination with membership produce a technical paper on the subject of pressure rise in substations caused by internal electrical faults.
This paper aims to set out and clarify the reasons that this occurs, provide guidance to customers, highlight controls available, overview mitigative measures, provide details on relevant regulations and links to further reading on this subject. Further support and expertise is available from the manufacturers of network products.
Technical Report No.1
Eco Design Directive for Transformers: Refurbished Equipment
The Eco Design Regulations for new Transformers (No 548/2014) came into force on the 11th June 2014, setting in place mandatory levels of efficiency from 1st July 2015. Despite initial confusion over the status of transformer placed into service prior to the regulation, the mandatory requirements specifically refer to transformers placed on the market for the first time. This report covers Eco Design and Repaired and Refurbished Transformers and sets out recommendations for future iterations of Eco Design.
Technical Report NO.2
Asset Expected Life for Transformers and Switchgear
Members of BEAMA’s Principle Products Technical Committee requested that BEAMA, in coordination with membership, produce a technical paper on the subject of Asset Expected Life for Transformers and Switchgear.
This paper aims to set out and clarify what Asset Expected Life. is, provide guidance to customers, highlight information available and provide links to further reading on this subject.
Technical Report No.3
Voltage Regulating Distribution Transformers
This fourth BEAMA Networks technical report introduces Voltage Regulating Distribution Transformers (VRDT) and their applications, benefits and more. The Voltage Regulating Distribution Transformer (VRDT) was designed to compensate for fluctuations in low voltage by responding dynamically to changes, its development borne from the requirement to modify the voltage ratio either automatically or manually when the transformer is on-load and energized as a means of supporting the economic integration of renewable energy.
Technical Report No.4
Eco Design Directive for Transformers - The transition from tier one to two
The Eco Design Regulations for new Transformers (No 548/2014)1 came into force on the 11th June 2014, setting in place mandatory levels of efficiency from 1st July 2015. This directive defined efficiency levels for tier 1 transformers and proposed efficiency levels for tier 2 to be introduced from 1st July 2021. Under Article 7 a review was proposed after 3 years from coming into force and that took place in 2017. This has resulted in a revised regulation for Eco Design Transformers, with overview and commentary provided in the technical report.
