The EC proposes a new deal on the Market Surveillance of products

16 January 2018

On 19 December 2017, the Commission proposed a new "Goods Package" that includes a revision of Regulation EC 764/2008 on the Mutual Recognition of Goods and, of particular relevance to Orgalime industries, a proposal for a Regulation on Compliance and Enforcement of harmonised products. This is a much better delivery than the 2013 proposal for a Market Surveillance of Products Regulation (MSPR). It aims at fostering more cooperation among national market surveillance authorities and opens the door to partnerships. This will include sharing information about illegal products and ongoing investigations so that authorities can take effective action against non-compliant products. Since 30% of goods in the EU are imported, the Commission further proposes to reinforce inspections of ports and external borders
