Policy Briefing December 2023
20 December 2023
Dear BEAMA members
We are not adopting the attitude shared by some that in the run up to the next general election policy development becomes less important – though in some ways it can become less predictable. Our policy work in the first half of 2024 will be crucial in further clarifying the interventions our members’ industry needs for market development, gathering evidence and setting the agenda by working across a wide range of stakeholders. We send our messaging and evidence to Government ministers, opposition representatives, and civil servants, who will provide the continuity into the next Government.
There are also numerous critical ongoing and upcoming consultations and policy programmes that demand our detailed attention. We will also continue to increase our proactive output, well demonstrated by our autumn campaign, and plan work that maximises outputs across all groups. And while there is a little less than usual on EU policy in this update, there are some hugely significant developments expected next year where we will see more details on EU initiatives on circular economy, product information and trade.
We are providing a single briefing again to members given that we continue to see greater cross-relevance across BEAMA sectors in many policy areas and hope that an insight into other product areas will be useful in understanding the trajectory of electrification, circular economy and safety policy. For decarbonisation in particular, each of our sectors depend on and are influenced by progress in another. We hope that this briefing will give you an insight into the wide range of factors across the policy landscape that affects your business, and we hope to encourage more collaboration between groups under the BEAMA umbrella.
As ever we hope this briefing in full or summary form helps you to navigate this challenging landscape, and that you are able to use the other resources we offer such as the BEAMA Issues Forum which is increasingly providing a vital platform for our members to keep track of policy development and their compliance obligations for an ever-changing landscape of regulation in the UK and EU.
