Recently Announced Industrial Action at Felixstowe Port set to Disrupt Supply Chains

12 August 2022

Dock workers at the Port of Felixstowe are set to strike later this month following rejection of a pay increase offer from the port owner and operator. With the port accounting for a third of all freight trade that enters the UK on containers, the strike action will mean major disruption for UK supply chains.

Union members have voted in favour of strike action between 21st and 29th August, a period that would potentially see over 45,000 containers entering and leaving the UK via the port.

With lead times for components and materials already lengthened, a strike at the UK biggest port will no doubt have an effect on the supply chains of many BEAMA members. Extended strike action will cause a standstill at the port, leaving many shipments on very long delays.
