EC consults on the NLF fitness check to new technologies

21 June 2019

The European Commission contemplates ‘modernising’ the parts of the ‘New Legislative Framework’ that would not be fit for purpose in the digital age or the circular economy. This might range from adding a few clarifications paragraphs inside the non-binding 2016 Blue Guide (including on mitigating cyber-attacks that could impact product safety) or possibly trigger a new proposal to revise 2001 GPSD on consumer safety. It may well lead to opening the Pandora’s box with a revision of Decision 768/2008 (EC). As we know, this document serves as a model for all changes to NLF-like product legislation, that unfortunately, the European policymaker tends to disregard. On Tuesday 25 June, EC DG GROW is testing the water with a bilateral meeting with Orgalim.
