Digital Construction Week - UK BIM Alliance report launch ' A Fresh Way Forward for Product Data
19 October 2018
This week saw the Digital Construction Week event take place at the Excel exhibition centre and this included the launch of the UK BIM Alliance state of the nation report “A Fresh Way Forward for Product Data”. This report sets out the current position regarding product data in the UK and proposes a way forward - in essence, it is a briefing document and roadmap for the future of product data. The BIM4BEAMA Working Group was directly represented on the working group by Trish Massey (Electrium) and Matt Crunden (Legrand) on the development of the content of this document and the final published version can now be found below
Digital Construction Week also held a number of informative presentation & workshop sessions and BEAMA was represented by Terry Rowbury on the panel session: ‘Digital Built Environment, Manufacturing, Off-site construction and the Supply Chain’. This was a wide ranging session that was well attended and covered the impacts on the industry of digitalisation and the need for new business models and ways of thinking for the industry going forward.
Whilst linked to Digital Construction Week, a separate international built environment community event was held close-by at The Crystal . This was hosted by BSI and covered their role in supporting the digital transformation within the Built Environment. The event included an awards ceremony at which BEAMA member Legrand received an award for their work in 'Supporting digital transformation in the Built Environment'. The award was accepted on behalf of Legrand by Matt Crunden.
All the above activity demonstrates the increasing recognition of the level of engagement and input that members of the BIM4BEAMA WG have on the continuing development and uptake of BIM in the UK. Additional information on BIM in the UK and the BIM4BEAMA Working Group can be found on the members area of the BEAMA website.
