Consultation on charging fees for applications for exemptions under UK RoHS

BEAMA have been expecting this consultation for a while now, and will be responding jointly with other Trade Associations as part of the Joint Trade Association group. This is a short survey-based consultation seeking to answer one principle question.
Do we agree or disagree with the Government's plans to introduce a fee, charged on a cost recovery basis, for processing application for an exemption to the RoHS regulations?
They assume the fee would be a one-off payment of £39,721, and the survey seems to indicate grounds for refund should costs not reach this full amount. They assume this cost would be managed through trade associations as a way to spread the burden across industry.
They ask in the survey if the deadline f 6th April 2023 would be sufficient to commence the charge.
Overall BEAMA are very concerned about the proposal and are seeking member views and discussing this with the wider industry.
