Commission and MHCLG invite UK companies to test the Smart Readiness Indicator Methodology
24 September 2019
The introduction of the EPBD includes a voluntary measure for member states to adopt - the Smart Readiness Indicator. The assessment method and calculation scheme has been developed, funded by the Commission and they are now inviting industry to test this methodology.
We encourage our members who are working in smart building services and technologies and who will have access to buildings available for testing to trial the methodology. We know UK Government are implementing the mandatory measures within the new EPBD now and are considering options for the SRI and what this could look like in the UK.
BEAMA have been critical of the methodology itself in previous consultations while maintaining support for the indicator. It is our belief this may be an over complex methodology and what we will be pushing for in the UK is a simpler measure of storage capacity within a building and therefore the ability of that building to engage in DSR services.
They are inviting stakeholders to test out this methodology, providing an opportunity to test what a (provisional) SRI score could look like. This can be found here: https://smartreadinessindicator.eu/testing-sri.
If you are interesting in engaging, I’d encourage you to contact the team leading the development of the SRI for the EU Commission at [email protected]. As an indication, timings include:
- 30th September 2019: optional deadline for early testers;
- 15th November 2019: deadline for submitting the calculation sheet and survey.
Previous BEAMA positions on the SRI can be found in updates further down this page.
