Call to preserve the EU ‘New Approach’ as one of the Single Market’s best regulatory techniques

10 March 2017

Orgalime calls upon EU policy makers to save the "New Approach to technical harmonisation", which is in jeopardy due to unnecessarily bureaucratic measures arising from the Commission’s over stringent legal interpretation of Regulation 1025/2012 on European Standardisation. Orgalime sent a letter addressed to First Vice-President Timmermans, Vice-President Katainen and Commissioner Bieńkowska on 8 March in order to call them to revamp the dialogue with industry, within the framework of the Joint Initiative on Standardisation. In parallel, we are taking action to invite the Legal Service of the EC to reconsider standards as a compliance tool, not as an implementing act of EU law.
