BEIS Alternative Energy Markets Net Zero Innovation Portfolio programme

11 March 2021

BEIS colleagues in SICE (Science and Innovation for Climate Energy) have asked us to inform you of an upcoming ITT and information event on 22 March for a new innovation programme that will create a real-world testing environment for potential reforms to upstream energy price signals (network & policy costs) which will affect how consumers are charged for energy.

As part of the UK Government’s £1bn Net-Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will issue an Invitation to Tender (ITT) in the latter half of March 2021 for an Energy Price Signals study. We are exploring options for an Alternative Energy Markets (AEM) programme that will create a real-world testing environment for potential reforms to upstream energy price signals (network & policy costs) which will affect how consumers are charged for energy. This environment could test what innovative services and tariffs energy suppliers and other providers can offer and how these incentivise consumer energy choices that support cost-effective decarbonisation, in particular demand side flexibility in electricity usage.

BEIS will be hosting an information event on Monday the 22nd of March from 15:00-16:00. The aim of this event is to outline the ITT and clarify any questions. BEIS would like to invite you to this event and would be grateful if you could share the below Eventbrite link with others who would be interested in attending. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/information-day-price-signals-study-alternative-energy-markets-tickets-143295331193?aff=ebdssbeac

The Energy Price Signals study will explore innovative price signals for policy and network costs. The objective will be to provide an evidence-based ‘menu’ of options for what an alternative system of network and policy price signals in the GB should look like, based on principles consistent with cost-effective decarbonisation. This will inform choices on how network and policy price signals could be varied for domestic consumers and how these could be implemented in a real-world testing environment in potential future stages of the AEM programme.

This tender will be published on the Find a Tender system. To apply for this tender please register on the following website: http://www.delta-esourcing.com/ .

Please ensure you have registered for the information event to receive the meeting details. We will send joining instructions to all registered attendees in advance.
