Important Update: Regulatory Changes to Passivation Chemicals used in the Hot Dip Galvanizing Process
The UK and European Union have recently phased out the use of Chromium Trioxide (Chromium VI) in the passivation process of galvanized steel. This legislation, effective September 2024, requires changes in process chemicals but this does not affect the long-term product quality or performance of the galvanized coating.
Key points for the supply chain:
- Corrosion protection is unaffected
- The long-term, stable galvanized coating appearance remains unchanged
- Alternative passivation chemicals are now in use
