EURIS Updates
EURIS letter on regulatory alignment
From January 2021 the UK will no longer be subject to any new European Regulation. It will have the opportunity to adopt parallel or equivalent UK regulations, or vary to develop separate and divergent legislation. It is assumed that until Dec 2020 all UK Regulations will be 100% aligned with the EU Regulations. UK industry, consumers and other stakeholders will need a process post Jan 2021 to advise on which of these approaches should be taken on an individual Regulation basis.

September EURIS Summit
EURIS published headline report - 'Maintaining a competative UK manufacturing industry post Brexit'

BEAMA members are invited to promote this publication to constituent MPs - letter template available below:

On the 11th EURIS hosted a summit in the House of Lords. Lord Henley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for BEIS spoke on behalf of Government, outlining the objectives of the “business-friendly” Chequers proposals. He was followed by very poignant speeches on behalf of industry by Schneider UK country President Mike Hughes and Rockwell UK MD Mark Bottomley. They both emphasised the dangers of a no-deal scenario, and very much endorsed the EURIS report. Several MPs and members of the Lords were in attendance along with senior civil servants. We also welcomed over a dozen colleagues from our European partner trade bodies.
On the 12th at the main Summit in the Shard, we heard the detailed results from the survey, as did DExEU minister Robin Walker. Robin Walker then presented a clear plan for the Government’s objectives for a deal based on the Chequers proposals. He also took 30 minutes of questions from the audience, and all felt that he understood the concerns from UK and continental attendees. He encouraged all industry, individually and through their Trade Associations to outline the concerns and opportunities for industry from the Brexit process. All made it clear to the minister that a no-deal scenario was simply unacceptable for industry.
Later in the day we heard from several European speakers outlining their national positions - not too different to the UK industry, and from BSI, outlining their strong lobby to retain membership of CENELEC. The industry support for this was outlined by Richard Dick, CEO of Lucy Group.
